  • 2001 - : Friends of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod Committee (FLIME); Chairman from 2008 and editor of Limelight Newsletter from 2004
  • 1997 - : Llantysilio Cymdeithas y Cwm: Secretary from 1997.
  • 1997 - : Accompanying musical performances by Ysgol Dinas Bran, and the Llangollen Junior Operatics - 'The Young 'Uns'.
  • 1984: Volunteering for Greenpeace, London.
  • 1974 - 1976: Manchester University Community Action. Volunteer Co-ordinator and Students' Union representative 1975/76

Hobbies and Interests

  • Music: I play guitar, 5-string banjo and flute in folk, blues, ragtime and jazz styles; take part in local amateur musical productions. I enjoy listening to a wide range of musical styles; I have accompanied several musical productions by Dinas Bran High School, Llangollen, and the Llangollen Junior Operatics Society.
  • Photography: Competent in the use of 35 mm and medium format equipment for social documentary, natural history and close-up work. Manipulation of photographs using Adobe Photoshop, and have run training sessions for local community groups. More...
  • Gardening: Converting a steep, rocky piece of Welsh hillside into something resembling a garden, growing most of my own vegetables.
  • Environment/Natural History: Worked in the Greenpeace office, London, and on the boat 'Cedarlea'; Close-up photography of insects and wild flowers. Seabird population survey, 1969; I enjoy hill walking, bird watching and cycling; interest in scientific press.
  • Travel: Most of Western Europe including Turkey and Greece; USA; Tanzania; Yemen; Sudan; Egypt; Ethiopia; Kenya.
  • Diving: British Sub-Aqua Club Sport's Diver qualification with the Port Sudan Sub-Aqua Club, 1987. Dived in the Seychelles, Red Sea (Port Sudan and Egypt), and the Mediterranean (Corsica). Would love to do more if my ears will let me.
  • Salsa Dancing: Attend regular training sessions with 'SusieQ Salsa' and I am part of a local display/competition team. Have been recruited by North East Wales Dance and Yale College to run classes as a freelance trainer.
